Glass is an amazing liquid! Usually when people think about glass art they think of glass blowing. My work is in the realm considered “Warm Glass” or “Kiln Formed Glass. There are a variety of types of kiln formed glass including, fusing, casting, and pate de verre (Meaning: Paste of glass). Pate de verre is where finely ground glass is mixed with a binder and the resulting paste is added to the mold using yet another variety of techniques.

These pieces made between 2010-2012 were made by embedding plastic toys into a wax covered frame or substrate. Then this “Positive” was placed in a box which was poured with plaster. When the plaster dried, the wax and toys were melted out leaving a detailed void, “Negative”. That space was then filled with various sizes of crushed glass called “fruit”. The now filled mold was then cast in a kiln. When the plaster was removed it revealed a new glass “positive” ready for cold surface work.

These pieces were made of Pate de verre.
